A narrative puzzle micro-game about exploring a strange underground world with two rival factions with ambiguous motivations that can't seem to see eye to eye... where will you stand? Your actions matter and will lead to one out of seven different endings!
Story, Game Design, Programming, and Music were all done by me. Sound Effects are courtsey of Coffee Valen Bat on itch.io.

You have just downloaded a real GameBoy ROM!
This means that to play it, you will need a GameBoy emulator. I recommend SameBoy. Unzip both the emulator and HatBoy.zip, then simply drag over the ROM file [hatboy.gb] into the emulator.
Alternatively, if you have a real GameBoy or GameBoy Colour console, you can flash it to a cartridge and actually play on real hardware!

i really liked this game, the art style really reminded me of the Atari i had at my grandmas. pretty short. 9/10
im by no means a dev but i found three glitches during my playthrough.
(screenshot one) you can go out of bounds here
(screenshot two) if you dont have 9 hats, 10 hats when you pick up the hat here you cant leave, softlocking your game.
(didnt get a screenshot) in the end screen you can go out of bounds on every surface.
Hi there, therealpooper98! First of all thank you very much for playing the game! I'm really glad you enjoyed.
And secondly, thanks for the bug reports. The second issue you mentioned I actually fixed in the ROM but forgot to update the web version.
The first issue I didn't add collision there because I wanted that path to lead to a secret... but then I forgot to add the secret ^^" I have now added a new secret room accessible from that location :D
And for the last issue, the collisions are now working correctly as intended.
Thank you again for letting me know! Feel free to give the game another run and see what the secret is, and try to get a different ending this time :P
I played some more and got the hat ending and demolitionist ending. i got to the secret area and thought i should come back after the collapse to see if the wall broke but its inaccessible (i really want one of the scary monsters as a pet now though).
i also found some more bugs!
screenshot one: the ending screen can still be walked through but only every two tiles (basically all the white ones that turn into red) but oddly its in the same spots if the colors change.
screenshot two: the next area load if you go down but if you go right you can walk out of bounds

Btw if you wanna give it a third playthrough later and get the good ending, don't kill more than one scary monster :P
